About the Centre

Founded in 1985, Sister Janet Mead’s Adelaide Day Centre was created to serve those experiencing homelessness and social isolation in Adelaide.

The Centre was established by Sisters Janet Mead and Anne Gregory from the Sisters of Mercy, who envisioned a place of care, dignity, and purpose. From its beginnings, the Centre has provided food, companionship, and meaningful activities to those in need, fostering a sense of community and belonging.

Located off Moore Street, the Centre has grown into a vital support network, offering gardening, crafts, and food services to engage and empower its visitors. Tragically, the demand for shelter and connection has never been greater. Today, with the support of volunteers, donors, and government grants, we continue Sister Janet Mead’s mission—providing hope and a voice for Adelaide’s most vulnerable.

How to Support

Tragically, the need for shelter and community connection has never been so necessary as there have never been so many vulnerable people in our society. The Day Centre is funded by donations and government grants.
